Tags are custom labels placed on an organization’s assets which can indicate key information about the asset (product type, where it came from, the asset’s current location, etc.).
Using tags makes it easier to sort and manage your assets and can help you track and gain a comprehensive view of your organization’s perimeter.
With the Auto tag policies feature, tags can be automatically placed on assets if they match a list of custom rules.
Ex: apply the tag japan
on all assets with type ‘domain’ and finishing by ‘.jp’.
Note : Only users with an Org Admin role have access to this feature.
To create a new auto-tag policy, go to the Settings of your dashboard then Auto tag policies.
Once on the Auto tag policy page, click on the button New policy, fill out the information and select Create.
The auto tag policy will be applied to assets manually added by your users and assets found by Patrowl.
Note : A tag dynamically set by a policy can be manually removed from an asset by a user.
To deactivate an existing policy, select the policy in question and change the status from "enabled" to "disabled".
To set up your policies correctly, there are a few specificities to keep in mind :
Auto-tagging policies are applied in many ways:
At creation : when a new policy is created or updated, the user can choose to apply (or not) the tag on existing assets.
On-demand : even if the policy is disabled, a warning notification will appear to inform the user before proceeding to the task.
Automatically : when a new asset is created and only if the policy is enabled.
When a policy is deleted, the user should be asked to remove (or keep) the related Tag from all related assets or all assets. In the last case, it will definitely remove the object AssetTag.
